Source: Clovis News Journal, N.迷你倉M.Nov. 16--RIO RANCHO -- Elida and Fort Sumner have been regulars in the state volleyball finals in recent years, although the success once they get there has been quite different.Elida is seeking its fourth straight Class B title in its 9 a.m. match today against Carrizozo while Fort Sumner is looking to knock off finals nemesis Tatum in the Class 1A match at 1 p.m.Fort Sumner is making its fourth state title appearance in the last five years after beating Mountainair 25-13, 25-13, 25-20, but the last three trips ended with losses to Tatum. In Friday's Class B semifinals, the top-seeded Lady Tigers (22-1) made short work of Corona 25-8, 25-12, 25-7.Elida and Carrizozo (23-1) met in last year's final, with the Lady Tigers winning in four games."They're a very talented, well-coached team," Elida coach Darrell Chenault said. "We can't be knocking serves and shots out of the square. We need to keep the pressure on them and not give them any freebies."Elida and Carrizozo's near identical records are a common trait -- both team's only loss was to Fort Sumner.McKayla Landreth had 12 kills, Angelica Torres added 11 ki儲存ls, three blocks and 18 digs, Codi Scoval-Wood chipped in nine kils and two blocks and Emma Moyer had nine kills and three aces as Fort Sumner (17-6) advanced to the 1A final by beating Mountainair. In quarterfinal play earlier Friday, Fort Sumner went the distance to beat District 3-1A rival Logan 25-13, 19-25, 25-21, 23-25, 15-9 while Elida shook off a bit of a slow start to blow away Gateway Christian 25-20, 25-6, 25-4.Elida struggled a bit early against Gateway Christian, but thoroughly dominated the Lady Warriors over the final two sets."Overall, we played well," Chenault said. "We had a little bit of a slow start -- we had three or four (service) errors."I think we had some nerves (early). After that, the girls adjusted and played really well."Fort Sumner beat Logan (15-8) for the fourth time this season, although this time the Vixens had to go five games to do it after winning once in a sweep and twice in four games. No other details were available on that match.Copyright: ___ (c)2013 the Clovis News Journal (Clovis, N.M.)
